The roots of a tree are bitter but its fruit is sweet.

樹的根部是苦的，但是果實是甜美的。

Likewise, work is hard but success is sweet.

同樣地，工作是辛苦的但是成功是甜美的。

That’s why people say, “Work has a bitter root but sweet fruit.” 

Many people complain that their jobs are uninteresting and stressful.

許多人抱怨他們的工作無趣又有壓力。

They often dream of winning the lottery and not having to work.

他們時常夢想著彩券中獎而不必再工作。

Work can be fun if you enjoy what you do.

若你喜愛自己所從事的工作，工作可以很有趣。

If you treat work as a duty, then it will be painful.

如果你將工作視為責任，那麼它就會是痛苦的。

Some people can do many things, but are not experts at any one of them.

有些人能做許多事，但是卻沒有一項專精的。

〔expert〕n. 專家，能手，熟練者。adj. 熟練的，老練的，有經驗的。

The saying, “A jack of all trades is master of none,” is for them.

In class, students should not be ashamed of asking the teacher questions.

在課堂上，學生們不應該恥於向老師發問。

In fact, questioning is the best way to learn new things.

The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong experience.

You must create and look for opportunities.

機會要靠自己去創造找尋。

Opportunities rarely ever come knocking on the door of someone who’s not seeking them.

機會不敲那些連找都不找它的那些人的門。

We should always be honest in dealing with people.

我們待人始終要誠實。

You may fool all the people some of the time,

You should treat others the way you like to be treated.

As the saying goes, 「One who has never tasted what is bitter does not know what is sweet.」 

俗云：「未經一番寒徹骨，哪得梅花撲鼻香。」

Success comes only with hard work and labor. 

Charity begins at home. 

慈善要從家庭做起。／慈善由家始。 

Your family must always come first. 

你的家庭紿終必須放在第一位。

Before you think of others, you should always take care of your family's needs. 

Conscience is the inner voice that warns us somebody may be looking. 

良知是一種出自內心的聲音，它隨時警告我們也許有人在看著我們。 

A man with a conscience will always do what he thinks is right no matter how detrimental the consequences may be to him.
